History & The Visionary Masterplan
Downtown Dubai, aptly named “The Centre of Now,” is the two-square-kilometre flagship mega-development of Emaar Properties. Launched in the early 2000s, it redefined urban luxury living and cemented Dubai’s status as a global city. Built with an approximate cost of AED 70 million, the district is now over 95% complete.
The masterplan revolves around three game-changing global landmarks:
- The Burj Khalifa: The world’s tallest building, housing residential, hotel, and commercial space.
- The Dubai Mall: The world’s largest and most-visited retail and entertainment destination.
- The Dubai Fountain: The world’s largest choreographed fountain system.
It is a mixed-use masterpiece, featuring aesthetically designed high-rise residential towers, luxury hotels (like The Address and Vida brands), and the Opera District, home to the iconic Dubai Opera. The design prioritises walk ability and people-oriented infrastructure, creating an operational urban ecosystem.
